What does Bonnet do?

Bonnet creates one-click desktop buttons from plain-English tasks, then runs those buttons locally on your machine.

Is the generated code visible?

Yes — Bonnet shows the generated script before you save it, so you can inspect and refine it.

Isn't this just another GPT wrapper?

Yes — that is the point. GPT can hand you useful code, but then what? If you have ever re-run the same prompt because you did not want to dig through chat history for that one utility, Bonnet turns it into a button you can keep. Prefer writing or generating code somewhere else? Import it manually and Bonnet can package the working tool.

Where does AI generation happen?

On your own AI account. Connect your Anthropic or OpenAI API key once in the desktop app — Bonnet is not an AI compute provider, so you bring the model you already pay for. Your key is stored in Windows Credential Manager and relayed through Bonnet only for provider requests; your buttons, scripts, and run history stay local except that scripts and error context are sent to your AI provider when you request generation or refinement. No key? You can still import or hand-write scripts — running buttons never needs one.

Can my coding agent make buttons for me?

Yes. Bonnet ships with a local MCP server, so Claude Code, Codex, or any MCP-capable agent can create buttons, pin them to your desktop, and choose where results appear — right from the conversation you are already having. Agent-made buttons always arrive at the Safe permission level; granting higher access stays in the app, done by you.

Does it replace full automation platforms?

No. Bonnet is built for small, personal desktop automations that should be faster than opening a heavyweight workflow builder.

Where do my buttons live?

On your machine by default. In the desktop app, buttons, scripts, and run history stay local unless you turn sync on yourself — it ships off. In the browser version they live in that browser. Turning sync on stores your buttons on our server so the same library shows up everywhere you sign in; your run history and API keys never leave your device either way. Scripts and error context are sent to your AI provider when you ask for generation or refinement.

Do I need an account?

No. You can use the desktop app with just a license key, and you can try the browser version without signing in at all. An account exists for one reason: to keep one library synced between the web and the desktop. Signing in is free and uses Google or GitHub; syncing needs a license.

Can I use Bonnet without downloading it?

Yes. The browser version runs the same app: make buttons with AI using your own key, design them, organize pages, install from Discover, and run prompt buttons. What it cannot do is touch your computer — PowerShell, Python, Node, and bash buttons need the desktop app, as do floating overlays, the tray, and global hotkeys. Those buttons say so on the tile and hand off to the desktop app instead of pretending to run.

How much does Bonnet cost?

$4, once. That is the whole price — no subscription, no locked tiers. One payment covers unlimited buttons, every surface, the desktop app, and syncing between it and the web. The browser version is free to try with a small library so you can decide first. AI generation runs on your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key, so the only other cost is what you already pay your provider.
